TEMPORARY PERMITS

Temporary Plates are only issued when physical paperwork from a dealership or lienholder is still being processed and we have not received it in office.

If you have a notarized Montana title, or an out of state title in hand, we do NOT issued Temporary Registration Permits, unless you reside in a different county or state.

We do not issue Temporary Registration Permits as an alternative to registering your vehicle in Montana at a later date.

If you recently purchased a vehicle and need a temporary permit, we will need your valid government-issued ID and one of the following items:

  • A notarized bill of sale, signed off on by ALL legal owners, with the notary section being dated within the last 40 days.
  • A bill of sale/purchase agreement from a dealership, signed by both the purchaser and a selling agent, dated within the last 40 days.
  • Current out-of-state registration with you listed as an owner, only if you are waiting for the title to be mailed to you or to our office from out of state.
